The modern lifestyle that revolves around luxury and materialistic pursuits has an unfavourable consequence in the form of stress. It is unfortunate to observe stress ingrained in the modern life, which has led to lifestyle diseases becoming a common phenomenon. Indians, especially women are often found paying less attention to their bodies, which results in aggravation of health related problems.
The interactive session was organized for staff at Mayoor to realize the importance of maintaining a healthy state of the body and mind in the contemporary world. The talk by Dr. Bharadwaj centered on the need to pay urgent attention to the health of body and mind, methods to beat stress and importance of exercise. Emphasis was placed on learning new skills and devising new methods to perform routine activities in order to rejuvenate the mind naturally. Incredible benefits of yoga and meditation as the alleviators of stress and lifestyle diseases were also brought to the fore.
Also, the health-related issues like vocal cord nodules, cervical spondylosis etc. associated with the profession of teaching were discussed. Information was provided for the methods and neck exercises to prevent the occurrence of these issues/diseases. Abdomen strengthening exercises were underscored for alleviating lower back problems.
The staff was made familiar with the role of genetics in personal disposition and disease incidence; preventive measures that could be taken if one is prone to getting a disease that runs in the family were discussed. Towards the end of the session, the teachers shared their health-related queries with the doctor and received favourable advice for the same.
