20th INTER-HOUSE ENGLISH ONE-ACT PLAYS

It was once again the month of April, and the Department of English was abuzz with discussions and deliberations to settle on the theme for this year’s English One-Act Plays. After exploring all possibilities, from William Congreve to Sheridan, MoliΓ¨re and beyond, the idea that finally emerged from the β€˜π‘―π’Šπ’‘π’‘π’π’„π’“π’†π’π’†β€™ (no prizes for guessing where that came from!) was π•πžπ«π¬πž 𝐏π₯𝐚𝐲𝐬... a refreshing new direction for the One-Acts at Mayoor!

What followed was a delightful and thoroughly enjoyable journey of bringing this vision to life, with everyone pitching in to the best of their abilities. While some got busy selecting the poems, others immersed themselves in stage adaptations, scripting, costumes and props. And of course, there were those who kindly corrected the pronunciation of β€˜POYUM’ and β€˜POME’ to the proper β€˜PO…em!’(inspired and fuelled by Ms. Shaheen Agarwal, our TEDx Speaker).

The equally enjoyable rehearsals and practice sessions culminated in the staging of 𝐂𝐫𝐒𝐬𝐭aπ›πžπ₯ by Mehrangarh and 𝐎𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 πƒπšπ π πžπ«π¬ (a fusion of The Frog and the Nightingale & Julius Ceasar) by Kumbhalgarh on Friday, 25 April 2025 and π“π‘πž π“πšπ₯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐌𝐞π₯𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐒𝐭𝐲 by Ranthambore and π“π‘πž 𝐍𝐒𝐠𝐑𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 π’πœπ¨π«π©π’π¨π§ by Chittorgarh on Saturday, 26 April 2025.

Mehrangarh walked away with the winning trophy as well as the award for the best Brochure Designing, followed by Ranthambore at the Second Position and Kumbhalgarh & Chittorgarh jointly at the Third. Kumbhalgarh also won the trophy for the Best Stage Setting.

The Judges for the event were Shri Abhimanyu Kanodia(noted Film Maker and Alumnus), Dr. Jyoti Chandel(Prof. of Political Science, Sophia College, Ajmer) and Smt. Alka Tak (Prof. of English, Govt. College, Ajmer).
